SMR is a regular member of the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium (MGMC), a coalition of midwestern graduate music programs that hosts an annual conference featuring paper presentations, a keynote address, and a concert of new music. On hosting years, SMR organizes and funds the bulk of the conference, while on off-years, SMR members help the host school with remote organization such as abstract reading.

The other MGMC institutions include the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

SMR is hosting MGMC on April 18th and 19th, 2025. Check out the MGMC website for more information.
