On Friday, November 12th, members of SMR gathered via Zoom to discuss Matthew Johnson’s Undermining Racial Justice (Cornell University Press, 2020) at the first Anti-Racism Reading Group of the 2021–2022 school year. Having discussed the text itself in some detail over the summer, participants focused on determining actionable steps that might be taken at SMTD and beyond to address the issues that Johnson raises. In particular, conversants discussed what the music school of the future might look like and how to advise incoming students.
